Fall Sight Word Mystery Pictures: Color by Sight Word at 3 Dolch Levels

Children read each word in the grid, find its color in the key and fill in the box. Square by square, a fall picture appears. Every picture is offered at three Dolch levels, so a whole class can reveal the same owl or pumpkin while each child reads words that fit them.

About this Fall Sight Word Mystery Pictures

Fall Sight Word Mystery Pictures is a color-by-sight-word activity for kindergarten and first grade. Each worksheet has a grid of sight words and a color key. Children read a word, find its color in the key and fill in the square. As they work, an autumn picture slowly appears.

The packet includes eight original fall pictures: a pumpkin, an apple, a fall leaf, an acorn, an owl, a mushroom, a sunflower and a fall tree. Each picture comes in three versions built on the Dolch Pre-Primer, Primer and First Grade word lists, for 24 worksheets in total.

That three-level design makes differentiation simple. The whole class can reveal the same owl on the same day while each child reads words at their own level, so nobody stands out for having a different sheet. Words to Know lists for each level let children color a leaf for every word they master, which gives them a clear sense of progress.

The word grids were planned carefully. Every word on a sheet appears in that sheet's key, each word matches exactly one color, and color words like red and blue are kept out of the grids so early readers aren't confused.

A 6-week study plan schedules one mystery picture a day. Color answer keys are printed four to a page to save ink, and a Sight Word Star certificate celebrates finishing the set.
